Too Old Cat plays charming, original folk music that blends traditional and progressive elements. Their tunes for banjo, cello, accordion, and vocals explore themes of friendship, dreamspace, and how we move through and connect to the world. Too Old Cat is a 2023 MPR Classnotes participating ensemble.
The Peer Gynt Norwegian Dancers are the junior lodge of Synnøve Nordkap St. Paul Sons of Norway. We dance at many events publicly, learn about Norwegian culture, bake Norwegian Christmas cookies and learn Norwegian words, songs and folk arts.
Jason Busniewski has been researching, playing, and teaching the old-time music of the Upper Midwest, particularly the fiddle traditions shaped by Scandinavian immigrants, for nearly fifteen years. He is a regular performer at Nordic Fest in Decorah, IA and is the recipient of a Folk Arts and Cultural Traditions Fellowship from the American-Scandinavian Foundation to collect and publish the music of Wisconsin fiddler, Hardanger fiddler, and instrument maker, Otto Rindlisbacher. Jason will present a selection of old-time polkas, waltzes, schottisches, and other tunes from our region and share a little about the history of music, cultural hybridity, and the emergence of a new multi-ethnic (though significantly Scandinavian) old-time music across the Upper Midwest.
