Sunniva Sorby and Hilde Fålun Strøm are two women who have taken climate change to heart and are embarking on a nine-month venture, Hearts in the Ice, to survey rapid climate change escalation in Svalbard, Norway. From September 2019 to May 2020 they will live in a remote trapper cabin called Bamsebu to conduct observations and gather data in association with the Norwegian Polar Institute, The Norwegian Meteorological Institute, NASA, and The Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Their goal is to launch global dialogue and social engagement around climate change in the Polar Regions.
You can meet these intrepid women and cruise the Arctic waters of the Svalbard Archipelago for yourself! Borton Overseas, Sons of Norway’s official travel partner, is offering an exclusive Signature Journey to Svalbard that includes a presentation by Sunniva and Hilde. They’ll share stories about their winter at Bamsebu, and will discuss how they performed their observations and gathered important data, what challenges they faced, and what successes they achieved. Then you’ll board Hurtigruten’s MS Spitsbergen for an Arctic adventure, where you’ll experience marine and wildlife encounters, witness breathtaking scenery, and have your own opportunities to contribute to scientific research and data collection through the onboard Citizen Science program.
