Key Responsibilities
This position is responsible for all risk selection activities, including the underwriting and approval of applications, working with Reinsurance companies, the Medical Director and various vendors used in the underwriting process. This includes monitoring industry trends for changes that have an impact on mortality.
Daily communication with Sons of Norway agents is a key part of this role.
Management of the Claims staff and review of all contestable claims.
Periodic review and updating of the preferred criteria, age and amount requirements and various mortality protection tools.
Partner with Sales and Marketing in developing agent field underwriting guides, training materials and periodically participate in webinars directed at agent field underwriting training.
Participate in broader initiatives, ie. Automated underwriting and application development and revisions.
Complete regulatory and compliance documents as well as manage and participate in internal audits, ie. MIB and Script Check.
Skills and Qualifications
Demonstrated solid, technical proficiency of underwriting and risk management skills.
Demonstrated strong leadership skills, working closely with Senior Management on key underwriting and claims issues and topics.
BS/BA required
4-6 years of Life Underwriting experience
Strong analytical, quantitative, decision-making skills
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Completed Industry related courses toward both the FALU and FLMI
