Former Sons of Norway International Board President Marit Kristiansen and long-time member Steinar Hansen received St. Olav medals from Norway’s Ambassador to the United States Kåre Aas. The medals were presented to the recipients last month at the Viking Hall in Anchorage, AK. St. Olav medals are awarded in recognition of “outstanding services rendered in connection with the spreading of information about Norway abroad and for strengthening the bonds between expatriate Norwegians and their home country.”
Marit joined Sons of Norway nearly 50 years ago, in October 1968. She said Steinar was the one who signed her up and initiated her as a member, so it was especially meaningful to receive the award at the same time as he did. “It’s come full circle,” she said. Marit served on the Sons of Norway International Board from 2000-2014 and was President of the Board 2012-2014. Please join Sons of Norway in congratulating Marit and Steinar for being honored with the St. Olav medals.
