Minnesota Senator John Marty is a featured speaker at the 2016 Nordic American Thanksgiving Breakfast to be held on November 22 at 7 a.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Bloomington. His remarks will focus on the concept of faith, one of the event’s primary themes (the others are freedom, family and friends).
When asked why community gatherings like the Nordic American Thanksgiving Breakfast are important, Marty said, “In a state with rich Nordic heritage and ever-increasing diversity, the Nordic American Thanksgiving Breakfast is an opportunity to celebrate our immigrant roots while appreciating the blessings that new immigrants from other cultures are adding to our lives and community.”
Marty noted that he’s looking forward to the event because “after a year filled with divisive, angry political discourse, this is an opportunity to gather together, give thanks, and show that we can unite and build a healthy, caring community.”
When sharing his thoughts on the concept of thankfulness and giving back, Marty said, “As we have been blessed, we are to bless others. In this season of harvest, as we have been richly fed, we show our thanks through Second Harvest, by making sure our neighbors – workers, students, retirees – don’t miss meals for lack of resources. We show our thanks through the Minnesota Military Family Foundation, making sure families of people serving our country can get family counseling or pay their rent and utility bills.”

The aim of the Nordic American Thanksgiving Breakfast, now in its 32nd year, is to bring together people of Nordic heritage and to offer thanks for the privileges of freedom, faith, family and friends.
